It Matters What We Think About God
"Whatever comes into your heart and mind when you think about God is the most important thing about you. . . . With the goodness of God to desire our highest welfare, the wisdom of God to plan it, and the power of God to achieve it, what do we lack? Surely we are the most favored of all creatures" A.W. Tozer, The Knowledge of the Holy.
Sometimes I think God is mad at or disappointed in me. Then, I feel obligated to do things to make it up to Him, to earn my way back into His good graces. Better stretch out my quiet time! Better try to pray longer!
You'd think I would have stopped this jockeying by now. I've walked with Jesus for a long time. (You never do this, I know :-).)
My flesh tries harder, doubles down, or just gives up. The Holy Spirit invites, whispers and woos. There's a difference. One feels forced, the other like freedom. One tries to shame me into changing; one simply loves and asks me to reconsider life in His Kingdom.
When I think about God, I try to remind myself: He is good. He is wise. He is powerful. God is Christlike (Colossians 1:19). Look at Jesus.
Therefore, I am favored. I am cared for. I am safe in His love.
I am free. (You are, too.)
